A recurring problem I'm having is the failutre of OE6 to open and display
e-mail messages online. I'm using and HP MCE 2005 (with Rollup 2), IE7, a wireless router and Cable modem service and ATT Yahoo (prodigy) ISP. The accts names and server names are correct and the same is entry screen as well as in Tools/options/mail/servers etc. Cable service is working fine and internet is available, but periodically, clicking OE6 does not open and gives the following: "There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'pop.prodigy.yahoo.com', Server: 'pop.prodigy.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [AUTH] invalid user/password', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92" Password is correct;has been verified several times. I'd appreciate any ideas. Vince -- vince |

Re this part of the error: '-ERR [AUTH] invalid user/password'.
This happens, clears up for awhile, then happens again? I would first remove the account, reboot and then add it back. If that doesn't resolve it, call your ISP and have them reset your OE password with a new one. They can become corrupt. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA "vince" wrote in message ... Thanks, Bruce:
I'll give the acount change a whirl the next time. Interestingly, the first time I tried to mediate this I did go for the ISP to change the sign on. It didn't help much. -- vince "Bruce Hagen" wrote: Re this part of the error: '-ERR [AUTH] invalid user/password'. This happens, clears up for awhile, then happens again? Intermittent errors are almost always on the server.
That said, you are using out-of-date settings. It's been well over a year ago that AT&T asked their customers, including legacy Prodigy users, to update the server names, ports, etc. See: http://www.att.com/esupport/article....573&ct=9000254 Incoming: pop.att.yahoo.com Port: 995 SSL Outgoing: smtp.att.yahoo.com Port: 465 SSL Outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication -- Mike - http://TechHelp.Santovec.us "vince" wrote in message ...
