If you don't want to "do" email - then no. (You *could* use it just as a
Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes manager).

Any mail service that provides POP, IMAP, or hosted Exchange mailboxes are
usable with Outlook. Additionally, Windows Live provides mailbox access via
DeltaSync using the Outlook Connector.

No, Outlook will work with essentially any e-mail service.
