I am trying to find out some information about outlook backups. I was
under the impression that with Outlook 2003 you no longer have to close down outlook to do the backup. But I was just told by a friend that that is not true the .pst files are locked and you still can't back up no matter what software you use unless outlook is closed. Does anyone know of software that will backup outlook even if it is opened or possibly will close outlook before it backs it up? Thanks Philip |

There are 3rd party utilities that do this. But Microsoft produced a little
addon to for personal folder backups a couple of years ago. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...875321033.aspx wrote in message ups.com... If the Microsoft Personal Folders Backup Tool is opened from within Outlook while it is open, it will display a message that says: "Outlook needs to exit before it can backup your Personal Folders file(s). Outlook will automatically backup your file(s) the next time you exit the program." -- SgtRich Chicago, Illinois, USA |

Download and install Knockout from sunflowerhead.com - activate it. Then
use the PFBackup. You will be surprised. -- Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Does it allow the Microsoft Personal Files Backup Tool to back up Outlook while it is running? I saw nothing to that effect at the website that you gave. -- SgtRich Chicago, Illinois, USA |

What appears to be the process as far as I can tell is that PFbackup wedges itself at the tail end of Outlook's shutdown process so that it fires off after the PST itself has closed, but perhaps before the OUTLOOK.EXE image itself unloads. -- Brian Tillman |
