I open Outlook 2007 (Vista Home Premium, SP2, up to date), start to compose
an e-mail and click on 'To ... ' only to see a long message which starts with, 'The address list cannot be displayed. The Contacts folders associated with this address list could not be opened ... etc. ' Now, I close down Outlook 2007, reopen it and then the that error message does not appear and I can choose addresses from my Contacts list. What's the story here? Thanks, Dave Horne |

Answered daily. You have invalid entries for folders in your address book
view. Remove the ones that no longer apply. -- Russ Valentine "Dave Horne" wrote in message ... Russ, thanks for the reply. I only pop in here when I have a problem and
was not aware that this is a problem that gets resolved daily. To be clear, when I compose an e-mail and use the 'To ...' field, I see a new window with Address Book (in bold as a field header) and under that - Outlook address book with Contacts as a sub heading, nothing else. The problem seems to have vanished but then again it always does when I close Outlook 2007 and then reopen it. Thanks, Dave Horne "Russ Valentine" wrote in message ... Answered daily. It's odd that it comes and goes with the same profile. Go to Address Book's
Tools, Options and remove all of the Contacts folder then click Add to add yours back. http://www.slipstick.com/tutorials/c...s/contacts.htm has a screenshot of the dialog - it's the first one. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com/ Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: New Poll: What type of email account is your main account? http://forums.slipstick.com/showthread.php?t=42402 "Dave Horne" wrote in message ... Diane, If I right click Contacts Folder \ Properties - Contact Properties \
Outlook Address Book - 'show this folder as an Outlook address book' is checked but grayed out. Contacts is listed alone as the 'Name of the address book'. The problem seems to have disappeared. I have renamed the Contacts folder in that previously mentioned window, closed down Outlook, reopen, went to same place and renamed the address book back to Contacts. Things appear to be fine at the moment. I was just curious for several reasons - this problem came out of the blue and closing and reopening Outlook solves the issue. That it comes and goes is certainly odd. When 'show as an address' is
grayed out, the address book is corrupt and the only fix for Outlook 2007 is a new profile. The rest of the profile may be ok, but if you see other weirdness you should probably make a new profile. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com/ Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: Do you sync your mailbox with a smartphone or pda? http://forums.slipstick.com/showthread.php?t=39473 "Dave Horne" wrote in message ...
