Default Unable to Open a Message in the Inbox

We are using Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2000. I have a user who sent a
message to another organization. The person on the receiving end has
the same configuration we have. The recipient replied to the message.
The original sender has the reply in his Inbox. When he double-clicks
it to open it, it won't open. He isn't using a preview pane.

Any ideas?
