Default Outlook 2003 takes minutes to change folders

We just upgraded a couple of users at my workd from OutlookXP to
Outlook 2003.
They're virtually identical machones, and both have PST's about the
same size. I run ScanPST on their PSTs before upgrading, and did a PST
compact.

But one machine is working great, the other one (since upgrading) takes
as much as 3 minutes to change folders in Outlook. It'll say "stand by
while Outlook prepares your view" (or something close to that) for
minutes before it changes.

What could be going on? What more can I do aside from ScanPST and
compacting to try to address this?

Thanks for any feedback!
-Liam

Try starting Outlook 1 time with the /cleanviews command line switch.

Thanks for the reply. Good switch to know for the future, for other
issues... unfortunately it didn't help this situation. =(
Thanks, though!

I can only suggest you look at the following things since PST files should
be running from the local drive.

1) Exclude doing a real-time scan on PST files

2) Look at item count in the folder

3) Look at rotational speed of the hard drive. (e.g. laptop drive of 4800 vs
5400 vs 7200)

4) Fragmentation of hard drive

5) FAT32 vs. NTFS

6) Cluster size (e.g. NTFS format but where one has
512Kb vs 4096Kb. 512 means more head movement)

If push comes to shove, create a new PST file and make that the default
delivery location. At this point, you can explain to the user to move
things from old PST to new or just use the old pst as an archive.
