ActiveSync 4.1 Help states "Backing up and restoring information is
available only for Windows Mobile software for Smartphone 2003 and earlier and Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC 2003 and earlier." Why has this option been removed for Windows Mobile 5.0? This was indeed a big mistake on Microsoft's part. The folks at Microsoft
thought that the (vast?) majority of hard resets are because of depleted batteries. It's true that, mostly with novice PPC users, depleted batteries sometimes did caus eproblems like this. With an advanced PPC user, these cases are very rare. However, backup/restore functionality would be needed in a LOT of other cases - for example, with program testing. This q BTW has been widely discussed on many PPC boards (and also in my blog). -- ----- Werner "Menneisyys" Ruotsalainen - Microsoft MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices Please see the Pocket PC Mag Expert Blog (including mine) at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - you will definitely like it. Well that's crap. Where is it then?
Given I have the latest version of Windows Mobile... where is it? -- Looking to retire early? http://www.icanberich.biz "Brian Tillman" wrote in message ... : Good News! wrote: : : ActiveSync 4.1 Help states "Backing up and restoring information is : available only for Windows Mobile software for Smartphone 2003 and : earlier and Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC 2003 and earlier." : : Why has this option been removed for Windows Mobile 5.0? There is NO backup facility.
I'm running Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition on an O2 XDA Exec. -- Looking to retire early? http://www.icanberich.biz "Brian Tillman" wrote in message ... : Good News! wrote: : : Well that's crap. In article , in the
microsoft.public.pocketpc.phone_edition news group, Good News! says... There is NO backup facility. I'm running Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition on an O2 XDA Exec. That's because contrary to what Brian has told you, there is no built-in backup on all WM5 devices. Any devices that do have such a utility, the utility is provided by the OEM. -- Paul Adare - MVP Virtual Machines It all began with Adam. He was the first man to tell a joke--or a lie. How lucky Adam was. He knew when he said a good thing, nobody had said it before. Adam was not alone in the Garden of Eden, however, and does not deserve all the credit; much is due to Eve, the first woman, and Satan, the first consultant." - Mark Twain |

iPAQ File Store, Built-In Store, LOOXstore (different brands use different
names for it) only existed on pre-WM5 devices. This is why there's no such thing on WM5 - there, the entire built-in ROM is used as the standard storage memory. (Incidentally, PPC Phone Edition devices have, even under WM5, a, by dfault, not visible area, the Extended ROM. It can be "unlocked" and, with several PPC PE models (depending on their ROM version), freely used. I've discussed this stuff in my blog too - see http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ind...&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 ). -- -- Werner "Menneisyys" Ruotsalainen - Microsoft MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices Please see the Pocket PC Mag Expert Blog (including mine) at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - you will definitely like it.
