I'm a newbie trying to transfer OUtlook also. Can you explain why
John's advice would corrupt files?

If a particular PST is defined in a mail profile (i.e., so that it is known
to Outlook when it is open), overwriting that PST with another will almost
always corrupt the mail profile so that it will either lose track of the PST
it knows or add an identical PST to the folder list so that all folders are
listed twice. The only cure is a new profile.

You make a new mail profile, as I already said.
