Default why does e-mail actuallly sent sometimes remain in my Draft folder with yellow background alert:"This Message has not been sent"

Hi,

I use OL 2000 IMO under Windows XP Home (SP2) on a stand-alone desktop
(Dell) with 2.16 GHz CPU and 1 GB RAM.

Sometimes I encounter an odd situation that I hope somebody will recognize,
even if they can't explain why it happens or even how to prevent it from
happening. Here goes:

I always send e-mail from my "drafts" folder, after the e-mail has been
saved; after I click "send" I can see that OL is sending the message based
on the 3 messages that appear successively in the right hand corner of the
status bar in the program's main screen, as follows:

1. Connecting to Server
2. Sending message 1 of 1
3. Mail Delivery Complete

When I have the intermittent problem in question, even though I see the
status messages:

1. there is NO copy of the sent message in the Sent Items folder (I
have had this option checked (2nd checkbox in
the e-mail options page) for years and it works all the time except for the
instances I am writing about), and

2. the e-mail message itself, despite the 3 status messages described
above, remains in the Drafts folder along with the message (in yellow) in
the upper left hand corner of the e-mail that says: "This Message Has Not
Been Sent".

But I know the e-mail has, indeed been sent as I've contacted the recipient
and they've verified they received it, notwithstanding this contradicts the
"Message has not been sent" indication in the upper left hand corner of the
e-mail.

Has that situation ever happened to anybody before? Any ideas? Nella
