I am trying to import the .csv file either from my memory stick or the
addresses from Outlook Express (Windows Mail) into beta Outlook from Office 2007 but I'm not sure if I'm using the proper method. Is it easier to Import from (within Outlook) or Export to (from within Windows Mail/Outlook Express) and is there a 'writeup' I could follow (ie where is file in Outlook that contains the address or where is Outlook Express Windows Mail contacts source). It's all so confusing using Outlook to import a .csv because I am required to drag fields from one column on left to right column and both columns contain totally different fields. I just want my contacts info from my Windows Mail addressbook (contacts) to import into Outlook contacts. I recall this process being much easier in past versions, than with this beta. Also, and maybe this is another newsgroup but when I try to view Application data folder in Explore, I get the security warning that I don't have permission. I already have unchecked the box in control panel/user account. Or should I log in as administrator to uncheck that box? This security is more restrictive than I am used to but I think it will be good for me even though I am the only user on this test machine but it's so frustrating when I can't even search folders locations just to get addresses imported. Is there an easy way?? Please anyone's help is most welcome!! TIA, katy |

You don't need to export Outlook Express addresses in order to import them into Outlook. In fact, it's easier if you don't. In Outlook (although the OL 2007 menu choices may be different than what I'm about to say), click FileImport and ExportImport Internet Mail and AddressesNext. Select Outlook Express, uncheck all but the "Import Address Book" box, then click Next. Select the duplicate handling you want and click Finish. If you want to import from a CSV, click FIleImport and ExportImport frmo another program or fileNext. Select "Comma Separated Values (Windows)" and click Next. Select the duplication handling you want and browse to the CSV file. Click Next. Follow the remaining prompts. I believe you'll get a chance to designate the mapping of fields. -- Brian Tillman It's all so confusing using Outlook to import a .csv because I am required to drag fields from one column on left to right column and both columns contain totally different fields. Thanks Brian, I tried it again, exactly as you mentioned he
In Outlook (although the OL 2007 menu choices may be different than what I'm about to say), click FileImport and ExportImport Internet Mail and AddressesNext. Select Outlook Express, uncheck all but the "Import Address Book" box, then click Next. Select the duplicate handling you want and click Finish. (for duplicate procedure I chose allow duplicates). After I clicked Finish, a Browse box came up. This Browse for Folder window showed the Explore tree where I could 'select the mail folder for Outlook Express 4.x, 5.x, 6.x or Windows Mail'. Since I have NO idea where that is, I chose the Removable Disk (G) where I had inserted my memory stick which contained the Outlook Express .csv file, it's is called Addressbook.csv (it's 8.56kb). I selected this G: drive and clicked ok. A report came up that said: 0 of 0 addresses imported. 0 of 0 distribution lists imported. Even if I choose the C: drive where the Outlook Express folder must be somewhere, the end result is still the same 0 of 0. And no error message either stating that I don't have Permission. I am so stuck here, if this is working for anyone else, please let me know what I may be doing wrong. TIA anyone, I sincerely appreciate any ideas........katy "Brian Tillman" wrote in message ... katy wrote: I am trying to import the .csv file either from my memory stick or the addresses from Outlook Express (Windows Mail) into beta Outlook from Office 2007 but I'm not sure if I'm using the proper method. I tried it a 4th time tonite, this time used the option "Import from
another program or file" and also before rebooting a 2nd time, I went to user account and set up a password, rebooted, signed in with password and was given access to application data. That is where the file was that contained the .csv files and now all contacts are imported. One grief is cured.......... now just waiting to hear how to disable security ![]() Thanks everyone!!! katy "katy" wrote in message ... Proof that you DIDN'T do what I said. There will be NO browser window where you can navigate to a folder when you do this. You select a mail program and it will import from that program. NO browsing to a folder at all. -- Brian Tillman |
