Hi all.
We are having a problem with a site using Outlook 2003 SP2 and Windows XP SP2 when they drop an email onto the desktop the subsequent .msg can only be opened once. If you open the .msg file again you get the error message "Can't open file: c:\Desktop....\xxxx.msg. The file may not exist, you may not have permissions to open it, or it may be open in another program" Well, it's not a permissions issue and the file does exists so it only leaves something holding it open. It's like Outlook is not releasing the file when you close the email display screen. Has anyone come across this problem and more importantly a fix for it?? Thanks, Paul. |

If you logout of Windows or reboot, can you open up the message?

Yes, it only occurs when you open the message file more than once. If you
exit Outlook and fire up the message file it works all the time. It's only while Outlook is running that the problem occurs. Paul. "Remove ABCD from Email address to reply" wrote in message .net... Not that it's any help, but yes, I've had the same problem before. I
had it when network users were trying to access .MSG files on the file server. User 1 opens it then closes it, and User 2 can't open it until User 1 exits Outlook. I do know that it seems to be Outlook-installation specific. On my old laptop, I could open and close a message as many times as I wanted, but as soon as another person opened it and closed it, I could no longer access it. Anyonoe know how to fix this? |

UPDATE - found that the anti-virus (ViRobort Expert from Hauri inc) Add-In
(Tools - Options - Other -Advance Options - Add-In Manager) was causing the problem. A soon as it was disabled the problem went away. For some reason it would not release the file when first open.
