I was recently thrown into the network admin position. I kow I have 4
servers. I do not have the password for 1, which may be the e-mail server. I know little about any of it. I created myself as a new user as well. I was generated an e-mail account. I cannot open outlook on my computer at my work. Can I get into outlook on line and see if I can set up my outlook account? I am lost. Please help. |

We're lost, too. Only you know what kind of mail server you are running. We have no clue.

Well, actually I can only guess that my mail server is Windows XP. Is that
what you are asking ? Please remember, I haven't any idea what all is in the server room. There are 4 boxes, one running Windows 2000- I don't know yet exactly what all it does other than back-ups. Then there is a dedicated Gateway running some library program. This is the one I cannot open due to not having the password. The XP is the print server and possibly mail server. I haven't figured out the other. Honestly, i am not trying to be difficult in my question/comments. I am truly lost. "Sue Mosher [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: We're lost, too. Windows XP is not a mail server. It is an operating system. Some mail servers can run on Windows XP. An enterprise-level mail server generally would be running on a machine with a server operating system, though, not Windows XP.
I'm not trying to be difficult either, but there really is no way for someone else to know what kind of mail server you have. It sounds like you have your work cut out for you, examining each of those machines to see what applications they are running. You might start by asking questions of the people inside your organization who might be in a position to know. -- Sue Mosher, Outlook MVP Author of Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003 http://www.turtleflock.com/olconfig/index.htm and Microsoft Outlook Programming - Jumpstart for Administrators, Power Users, and Developers http://www.outlookcode.com/jumpstart.aspx "Alcush" wrote in message ...
