Default question marks hyperlinks

Often when i am copy a whole or part of a webpage and paste it into an email
it looks fine and so i send it. At the other end, however, all they see is
hyperlinks and question marks. Then I check my sent folder and I see the
same. What is causing this and more importantly how do I get to keep the
email in the format with all the images etc.
