On my desktop pc at home I have Office 2003 Professional. When I initially
installed Office I did not elect to use Outlook as my email program, but rather OE. Now, I want to use Outlook. From Outlook, I imported all my OE folders. I set up a new email account. From the Control Panel, Mail, I selected Outlook as my default email program. In Outlook I decided to compose an email. There is no Send button. Under the File menu, there is no "New Message" item selected. When I hover over the "New" button icon it shows "new message" in the tool tip. I can use the keystroke shortcut to send email to the Outbox but it just sits there. In the Options, I have selected to Send Immediately when connected. If I click on the Send/Receive button from the Mail Setup section of the Options, I get nothing. (I have Outlook 2003 on my laptop, although I do not use it to receive email, only to send. The Send button is there. When I click on the Send/Receive button I get a new screen to select groups.) I was not connected to the internet at the time I was setting up the email on my desktop. I have read other threads about this problem but have not found a solution from them. I tried the Repair feature from the Office installation disk and that did not help. I uninstalled Outlook, rebooted the pc, reinstalled Outlook, rebooted the pc, and still no send button. Any suggestions? Should I do a complete uninstall of the entire Office suite? Thanks for your help. Donna |

Hi Donna
Close Outlook. Unhide files and folders in Windows Explorer, then do a search for the outcmd.dat file. Rename it and re-open Outlook to see if that makes a difference for you. Also check your current view to make sure you're not hiding/suppressing any fields. -- Kathleen Orland Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ http://www.howto-outlook.com/ "Donna" wrote: On my desktop pc at home I have Office 2003 Professional. I tried renaming, I renamed the file outcmdOLD.dat. I restarted the pc and
opened Outlook. Still no Send button. I read in another post about searching for a file with the extension of rsv or something like that, I've forgotten now, but I did a search in Outlook folder for that file extension and found about 20 files. They seemed to have the same name, but were sequentially numbered. Should there be more than one of those files? I did not rename any of them as was suggested in a previous post, because I wasn't sure about renaming them. I will check the View section to see if I'm hiding anything. Thanks for the suggestions. If I still don't get the Send button back, do you think it would be best to reinstall all of Office Pro? "K. Orland" wrote: Hi Donna Close Outlook. Hi Donna
I wouldn't consider reinstalling just yet. Try opening Outlook with the /cleanviews switch: http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/c...neswitches.htm Let me know how that goes. -- Kathleen Orland Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ http://www.howto-outlook.com/ "Donna" wrote: I tried renaming, I renamed the file outcmdOLD.dat. Thanks Kathleen! This article looks very promising. I will give the
cleanviews switch a try after I get back home. Thanks for the response. I'll follow up with the results as soon as I get back from a mini-vacation. Donna "K. Hi Kathleen,
I tried the cleanviews switch, but it did not help. I tried uninstalling Office, all of it, and reinstalling, but it did not help either. I deleted the outlook pst file and thought that might help, but it didn't. I contacted MS support and got 2 suggestions.... of which, the first suggestion worked. This is for anyone else who has had this trouble as well.... I opened Outlook, went to the Help menu, Detect and Repair. I unchecked the box about shortcuts, and placed a check in the box about restoring defaults. I had to close Outlook once that began. When it was finished, I re-opened Outlook and was greeted by the Outlook 2003 Setup screen. I was able to set up my email account. I don't know why it worked this time. I had previously tried detect and repair using the Installation disk, and selecting Outlook. I had no idea the Detect and Repair feature within Outlook might work differently. Now I know.... and hopefully this will help anyone else who runs into this problem. I have bookmarked the articles you wrote about and have printed out the switches table. Never know when that might come in handy. ha Donna "K. Orland" wrote in message news ![]() Hi Donna Close Outlook.
