I don't know computers much...what does your reply mean? I'm been having
this same error message for over a day. "Chris Krohn" wrote: Never mind... This turned out to be a subtle DNS error on our network (one of the 2 DNS servers was unavailable and it did not roll-over properly to the other DNS server). Chris --- chrisatkrohndotorg Cayman Islands On Thu, 18 Aug 2005 12:38:12 -0500, Chris Krohn wrote: I'm running Windows XP SP2 with Outlook 2003 with all the latest patches from outlook.microsoft.com. I have 2 accounts. The first is to our Exchange server (which works flawlessly) the second is to my personal e-mail account. When I try and retrieve messages, Outlook sends all outbound messages (via SMTP) without a problem, but then cannot received inbound email (via POP3). I get the following message when I try: "Task 'servername - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108): 'Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP)." I can telnet from the command prompt to the servers address using the POP3 port (110) without issue. The server name and port are correct in Outlook. When I turn on logging, I get the following: 2005.08.18 10:20:24 server name: Synch operation started (flags = 00000001) 2005.08.18 10:20:24 server name: UploadItems: 0 messages to send 2005.08.18 10:20:24 server name: Synch operation completed 2005.08.18 10:20:24 server name: Synch operation started (flags = 00000030) 2005.08.18 10:20:24 server name: DoPOPDownload(flags = 00000030, max msg = ffffffff): full items 2005.08.18 10:20:24 POP3 (server name): Begin execution 2005.08.18 10:20:24 POP3 (server name): ========= Initial blob ========= 2005.08.18 10:20:24 POP3 (server name): +B1123981537.28783.1.messageidservername,S=82 42 | 50 or so lines as above | 2005.08.18 10:20:24 POP3 (server name): +B1124218332.23320.1.messageidservername,S=86 11 2005.08.18 10:20:24 POP3 (server name): =================================== 2005.08.18 10:20:24 POP3 (server name): Port: 110, Secu no, SPA: no 2005.08.18 10:20:24 POP3 (server name): Finding host 2005.08.18 10:20:24 POP3 (server name): Connecting to host 2005.08.18 10:20:45 POP3 (server name): Disconnected from host 2005.08.18 10:20:45 POP3 (server name): End execution 2005.08.18 10:20:45 server name: ReportStatus: RSF_COMPLETED, hr = 0x80042108 2005.08.18 10:20:45 server name: Synch operation completed So Outlook is obviously connecting to the server, but not completing for some reason. I should not that because I delete the server messages only from home, this Outlook account is set to leave a copy of the message on the server and never delete them. Anyone have any ideas?
