Default compressed files (Attn DL)

Sorry about the lack of information....I am talking about Outlook Express,
version 6.0. If I go to--Tools/Options, and click on the "maintenance" tab,
and then on "clean up now, it says the messages can be "compacted" to free
up disc space.
It also shows the location of the "store folder". I went to
C./Owner/Local
Settings/App.Data/Indenties/651fef03-fsad......../Microsoft/Outlook Express/
and found folders that were labeled "Inbox", "Sent Items", "Deleted items"
etc. ( P.S. In getting there some of these folders were "hidden")
The file extension was "DBX", and I opened them as a "text document"
and with "microsoft word" and got a bunch of letters, blocks and jibberish.
Years ago when I had "windows 95" I was able to go to a storage file and
open the file like this and read every E-mail I had ever written...I'm just
wondering if it's due to the fact the they are "compacted" that I can't read
them or if there is any way to "uncompact them"
Thanking you for any info !!!

Outlook, the news group you are posting to is a completely different app to
Outlook Express.
I have never used OE for mail, I believe OE is supported in the Internet
Explorer news groups.
