I just got the full version of Office 2003. Currently, I have Outlook
2000 Internet Mail Only ("IMO") running on my XP Home machine. When I
run the Office 2003 installer, it does not give me the option to update
Outlook 2000 IMO which currently resides on my computer. I have seen a
few websites that say I have to uninstall Outlook 2000. After updating
my .pst files, I uninstalled 2000, but Outlook 2003 still won't install
on my computer.

What happens when you attempt to install Outlook 2003? You do NOT need
to uninstall Outlook 2000 in order to install Outlook 2003. Outlook
2003 will automatically overwrite Outlook 2000. As a safeguard, I
would back up your Outlook 2000 .pst file(s), though.

I'd also add that after upgrading from IMO, you should create a new Outlook
profile from scratch. Outlook cannot update an IMO profile successfully.

the install wizard won't allow me to update/upgrade to O2003. when

i insert the installation CD and the install wizards starts. it then
detects what previous
versions i have and presents a box that allows me to update various
programs - ie word, power point, excel etc. it allows me to place a
check
mark in these boxes to update; however, the box for outlook is greyed
out so i can not update.

when i uninstall O2000, and rerun the installation disc, the Outlook
box is still greyed out.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

You'll need to post in an Office group. Installation issues are handled
there. Provide a lot more detail when you do, such as how your original
installation was installed and licensed.

Of course it is grayed out - you don't get a choice about upgrading
Outlook - you cannot have 2 versions on one machine. Are you selecting a
custom installation? What happens if you do?

i don't want one version on 2 machines - i want to run O2003.

After installing Office2003, have you actually opened OL.
If so what does it say in Help/About?

There should be a program in the MS Knowledgebase that will remove all
traces of Office 2000 from your PC. It should be he

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247674/EN-US/. However, it may not run on
WIndows XP.
