![]() Hey everybody. I wanted to pass along a program that offers a valuable fix to what I believe is a significant bug in MS Outlook. A friend had created some new folders specifically for Contacts, and had named them accordingly and was moving Contacts from their default "Contacts" folder to the new folders he'd created. When he tried to rename one of the folders, he accidentally clicked on Delete Folder (which appears next to "Rename Folder" in the pulldown). I'm not sure if it prompted him to delete, but if it did, he must have inadventently hit "yes" because the folder was indeed deleted. Well, apparently when you do this, the Contacts that were in the folder are HARD DELETED (i.e. NOT located in the Deleted Items folder), but the folder itself does appear in the Deleted Items folder. So, you can pull the folder back out, but the Contacts that were in it are gone. I'd like to see Microsoft change this to have the deleted contacts also appear in the Deleted Items folder. So, after trying about five different Outlook recovery & undelete programs with no success, we found this program: Cimaware OutlookFIX The trial version from their web site went in and found the deleted Contacts, and when registered, it successfully went in and restored them!!!! If you encounter this program, try that program and it just may save your life. Be good everybody. Alex |

It's nice that your "friend" solved his problem, but the moral of the story is to make regular backups, in which case all data, not just Outlook data, are protected. |
