Default Can't send or receive e-mails from "client" network computers

I have a small peer-to-peer network of three computers, and use MS
Outlook 2000 SP-3 (9.0.0.6627) as my e-mail program. All computers are
XP (SP2).

I've recently had to reinstall my setup following a system glitch on
the host machine. Everything is fine, except for one thing. I can
neither send nor receive e-mails from the two client machines.

I can access the central address books, Personal Folders etc. without
any problem; just can't actually send or receive via the client
computers.

If I try to send or receive from the clients, after a few moments
searching I get "The POP3 / SMTP server name you specified cannot be
found. Please check the name and try again".

Both the POP3 and the SMTP server names are correct.

(I should say that on a couple of occasions from one of the clients, a
self-addressed test message has somehow got out. However, they both
bounced straight back to that machine with the following comment:

"Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: xxx
Sent: 28/09/2006 13:36

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

' on 28/09/2006 13:36
No transport provider was available for delivery to this recipient.")

********************

From the host machine, everything works fine, and networkwise,

everything appears OK. I have full internet access from all machines,
together with full file/folder/printer access across all three
computers.

I'm using a proxy server (the same on all machines) - because my local
server has been running slow - but that was the case before
reinstallation of XP on the host machine and has never been a problem.

I've sort of exhausted my own diagnostic abilities! If anyone has any
solutions or suggestions as to why this e-mailing problem from my two
client machines might be happening, I'd be very grateful to hear.

Thanks in anticipation -

TM

Thanks for coming back.

I've had a good look at all the articles you referenced, but none of
them address my problem. Bottom line is, I have no difficulty at all
sending or receiving emails through my host machine.

It's only on the two client machines that I get the responses described
above.

BTW, it's probably worth mentioning that I can ping my ISP from both
client machines with no problem! Just can't pull down or send emails
from them...

Cheers -

TM
