Default How does an attachment get sent with my messages without my knowle

An unwanted gif.(001.) is automatically sent with each message I send. It
appears under the subject line to the recipient as an attachment that needs
to be opened. It is a very small object that I have no memory of inserting
in any doc. whatsoever. What have I done?

Do you have an auto signature? Sounds like it's in there, if so....try
recreating it from scratch.

Have you tried sending an e-mail message to yourself and check what's in it?

I do not have an auto signature, but I do select different default fonts and
stationary about once a month. The signature was the only other thing I
could think of that would automatically happen without my knowledge so I went
to options to see it was set up and it is not. What do you mean start from
scratch? Set up a signature?
Thank you for taking the time to consider my problem.

It's probably your stationery, then. I don't recommend stationery anyway -
it makes your messages bigger, and you have no guarantee that it will show
up properly on the recipient's end anyway. If you disable stationery, and
send a message in HTML, do you have the same problem?

Yes, and to say that something so small could cause me so much aggravation is
not overstating. It is the same 001. gif each time, only 15x15 bits. It
looks like a Mondrian painting by an ant. Your message prompted me to look
at it again and this time I might have found the root of the problem by
following a path to it's location in the temporary internet file. It felt so
good to hit delete. If it shows up again I don't know how I'll take it. On
the chin I guess.

Earlier someone stated about using stationery. Usually stationery is
basically a web-page (HTML) transmitted along with the message you type.

Here's what to do:

1. Create a new message using the stationery (don't worry about the To,
you're not going to send it)
2. After the Create Window comes up with your stationery, CLick on View |
Source Edit
3. On the bottom of the Window, you should see 3 tabs, click on the Source
tab.
4. The message window should change to show you all the HTML being sent
5. Sift thru HTML looking for the img src= entries and verify what the
pathnames are.
6. Locate them on your system.
7. When finished, just Close the Create Message window. Do not send.

Hope this helps.

Sorry the steps I gave you were for Outlook Express.

Change the step for View | Source Edit to right click in message area,
select Source.

Make sure you're using "Blank" stationery, check in Tools Options Mail
Format Stationery Picker.
