Default Search in OL 2003 finds older items first, then after 2-3 mins the new items

On an OL2003 w/ a 1.4G mailbox...

When I do a search, It displays items from when I moved to my new
laptop 1st, and then older... Then after a couple of minutes it 'finds'
and displays the newer items.

I've tried deleting my .OST and creating a new one, but that just
changes the date that OL starts finding things with, and within a month
I have to create a new .OST. For the size of my OST I'd prefer to fix
the search...

Is there a registry setting somewhere that I'm missing? Or some
predefined search start point?

Thanks in advance,

This is 'by design'. There is no way to tweak it that I know of (and I and
many others have looked.)

outlook 2007 handles it better - as do many desktop search tools.
