I want to move a pst file to a new location. I shutdown Outlook, moved
the file and restarted Outlook expecting to get a prompt that the file was missing and asking me to point to the new location (instructions found on slipstick). But rather Outlook opened and the folder where the data had been located just refused to expand saying that the old path was no longer valid. What do I need to do differently to get this folder moved? Outlook 98 (internent only mail mode) WinXP John Keith |

Copy Outlook.pst to a new location.
Rename Outlook.pst to Outlook.old at the old location. Restart Outlook and Outlook wil ask where your Outlook.pst is. Select Outlook.pst at the new location. Done. Your description is accurate for the Outlook.pst file. I should have added one additional piece of info, this was not the Outllok.pst file but simply another folder I use for sorting and saving some of my email. I did find a Microsoft knowledge base article that gave me the info I needed however. After moving the pst file I needed to use File|Open to reload back into the folder list. But thanks for your rsponse. John Keith |

Brian,
In that case, you should have closed it in Outlook (right-clickClose), closed Outlook, moved the file, opened Outlook, and then used FileOpenPersonal Folders File to open it again. Yes, that's what I learned to do after finding the Microsoft knowledgebase web page. Now can I remember this process when I do this little used operation three years from now? Thanks for the info.
