Default Problem sending mail

Outlook 2003 is trying to send two messages that do not appear in the Outbox
and are unable to be sent. This means that I am unable to send subsequent
messages and I keep getting error messages.

- I have transferred the contents of the Outbox to the drafts folder so that
the mailbox appears empty and the problem still appears.
- My I use Gmail as my outgoing SMTP so there is no conflict with the ISP.
- I have Norton AV 2003 installed but disabling this does not rectifty the
problem.
- I regulary send mails with the settings set to request notification of
delivery and reading in case this is in someway involved.
- I have not installed any new software before the problem started.

Can someone please advise me on i) what is causing the problem and ii) how
to delete any outgoing mail that does not appear in the Outbox and how to
find out what in fact this outgoing mail/traffic is.

Many thanks,
Ben

What's the error you get when it tries to send them? I'm wondering if
they're read receipts or delivery receipts.

Yes they were!

I resolved the problem using a very useful tool called OutlookSpy

Thanks for your time,
Ben
