Default Outlook 2007 cached mode issue

I have one client with a bizarre issue. Windows XP Pro in a domain
environment. He has Office 2000 (not Outlook 2000) and Outlook 2007 Beta
2TR.

If he creates a new message in plain or rich text and sends it to someone in
his personal contacts it locks up Outlook. Restarting Outlook will lock up
if the failed message isn't promptly deleted. He can send to a contact using
an HTML message and he can send any message to someone from the GAL just
fine.

I disabled cached mode and the problem went away. I deleted his OST file and
turned cached mode back on. The problem returned.

Of great importance to the issue is the OST file. His old one was 59MB and
the new one 41MB. The new OST should have taken a minute or two to sync up
to the server. It only took a few seconds, however. It seems to me that the
OST files are not being created correctly and is causing the application
hang issue.

I want to try offline mode to see if I can access email in his OST and will
the next time I get to that building.

Has anyone seen an issue like this?

Steve
