Default Unsolved Mystery

It was march 2002. I had hotmail account. One day I found that somebody
has sent email to my office from my hotmail account. I was shocked. It
has file attachment about airfares. By coincidence, I was in process of
preparing passport.

I also started receiving mails on my hotmail account from email address
of none other than my very senior officer of my company (my company is
world's largest insurance company and such things are unthinkable).

Since I had no knowledge of internet and there was no one in my office
who know what internet means, it was shocking puzzle for me. But in
those days I was working over serious job. Hence I abandoned my hotmail
account and ignored that episode.

But still sometime I wonder, who was behind it. One thing was sure. He
was someone in my company.

But question is how he got access to my hotmail account and sancharnet
(owned by govt of india) accounts of my senior officers?

Default Unsolved Mystery

Are you sure your account was compromised and it wasn't just a spammer
forging the sending address?

Password of my hotmail account was not changed. I had access to my
account.

I just read about email address forgery. I think it was the case of
email address forgery. I had little knowledge. So I had checked source
of emails. It was originated from sancharnet servers, which was only
ISP available in those days in India. And I recall that I was not using
email address given by my ISP because they were still struggling to
make there email system perfect.

So somebody who know me used this weak point of ISP. Spammers send
email to dictionary word addresses. Email address of my office was
strange, not disclosed on net and known to just 20-30 persons.

In those days I had taken review of persons who know me and who has
knowledge of computers to such depth.

I closed in on one name. But I know this person very well. He can't do
such things.

But sometime people are unpredictable.
