I just recently switched from Outlook Express to Outlook. I've noticed on
some of my emails where the message appears there is a "silver bullet" by the
sender's name. Other times it's green. What do these mean?

Where does this indicator appear? What version of Outlook are you using and what Add-ins do you have installed that would "flag" email?

It's a little round circle that is silver, sometimes blue, green...I've since
talked to someone & they told me that it is for my Messenger contacts & shows
whether or not they are online at the time or their status. Thanks for
responding though.

Ah, had you told us the version of Outlook in the beginning, this would have been obvious to answer. It always pays to include your version of the program and what OS you are using in the first post to avoid the back and forth.
