We run Exchange 2003 (latest service pack) with Outlook 2003 deployed to all
desktops and laptops. My boss, who has a laptop, is in and out of the office a lot and often connects via VPN to receive his email. A problem that has just developed is that emails no longer seem to be coming into his inbox - he cannot see new emails from outlook. However, new emails are forwarding (by rule) to his blackberry okay, and if he connects using OWA then he can see everything. So emails are arriving but just not appearing in his inbox in Outlook. There is nothing significant in the windows event log, and whilst there is a "sync issues" folder, it is empty. Any idea what has/is going wrong and what I can do to put it right? Thanks in advance. -- Brian Cryer www.cryer.co.uk/brian |

In Outlook\View\Arrange by\Current view\Customize, Filter|Sort By|Group by etc. Thank you for the suggestion. That's something I should have checked straight away. I've now checked the settings, and emails are sorted by date with no filter, so I don't think that's it. I've just discovered that during a send and receive the following error is reported: Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x80040600):'Unknown Error 0x80040600' but I still can't find it being logged anywhere. Googling on this there seem to be two common causes: 1. corrupt item in outbox and 2. corrupt deleted items. Both the deleted items folder is empty (has been emptied) and there are no items waiting in the outbox, so if anyone knows of any other causes this would be appreciated. -- Brian Cryer www.cryer.co.uk/brian |

Can you temporarily disable cached mode and see if items are visible? What happens if you then enable cached mode? I don't know, but I think you are on the right track. I'd decided to run scanost.exe to check the ost file, but before doing that I decided to take a backup of outlook.ost. When taking the copy I got a cyclic redundancy check error, so a clear indication that the ost file is corrupt. I've delete it, allowed Outlook to recreate it - and scheduled a disk check. All quite difficult when my boss wants to be using his laptop at the same time. At the moment it appears that new emails are now appearing, so my original problem is resolved. My only concern is where the disk error came from and whether it might be an early indicator that its failing. Since the event log isn't full of disk errors, I'm hoping that its a one off ... something for me to keep an eye on. -- Brian Cryer www.cryer.co.uk/brian |

Do not keep eye on it, be proactive - at least make a backup of his data (we are talking about laptop, not server?). Better yet - replace the drive. -- If my message is helpful, please help me by registering at www.openoffice.org and voting for the following issues: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=4904 http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=70753 http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=15220 http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=10931 http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=35579 http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=32785 http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=1035 http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=67838 http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=39527 http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=64785 Thank you very much! |
