Default E-mails

I have just changed to Outlook 2002 from Outlook Express 6, and I am
finding that the change is not as easy as I thought it would be. I have
several questions:

I. I imported my e-mail addresses from the OE address book to the
Outlook contact list. However, many of my contacts in OE have more than
one e-mail addresses, but only the default e-mail went to Outlook. Do I
have to manually enter the secondary e-mail addresses?

2. In the advanced e-mail options, I have checked "suggest names while
completing To, CC, and BCC fields." However, if I start to write
someone's name on an e-mail it does not suggest anything. Only if I
start to write an e-mail address will it finish it. How can I change
the options so after typing a couple of letters of the first name it
will complete the name?

3. When I imported my e-mails from OE to Outlook, some of the e-mails
were put in their new folders with the correct date of when they were
sent or received, but many of them were placed in the different folders
with today's date instead of the date that they were actually received
or sent. Why did this happen and is there anything I can do to change
them to the correct date?

Thank you.

1) You could try exporting the OE address book as CSV and see if all
addresses are included, then import it - but note that OL only supports 3
addresses. If you use OL's commands to import the addresses, try exporting
from OE instead.

2) Have you previously sent mail to those addresses? The autocomplte cache
is created/updated after you send email.

3) you should export from OE, not import using OL's commands.

Diane,

Thank you for the advice. I did as you suggested, and it worked, except
that now I have to use a program to delete all the duplicates. I
originally used OL's import command, because that is what the MS OL
website said to do.

But now I have a more serious problem: OL will not work at all. I get
an unknown error Ox8004060C when I try to send or receive e-mails in
both of my accounts. If I try to delete an e-mail I get "The messaging
interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists,
restart Outlook." I have restarted Outlook many times and rebooted and
I still cannot use the program.

Please help!

Caryl

I think that I spoke too soon when I said that the e-mail messages were
exported correctly from OE to OL. When I checked some more of my OL
folders I noted that the files that I exported from OE to OL did not
go. It went in the earlier folders, but OL must have stopped working
about halfway through. I just tried exporting again with two folders
and it did not export anything from OE to OL.

However, when I turned on OE to try this I found a bunch of e-mails in
its Inbox. Why are they going there? I put that OL should be my
default, but did the problems I am having with OL cause that to change?
Furthermore, there are three e-mails in the Outbox of OL--two are test
e-mails to myself and one to a friend in France. Most of the e-mails
that I found in the OE Inbox were the test e-mails, coming I assume
each time that OL tried to automatically send them. My friend wrote
that she received the e-mail I sent her 26 times. I now have to turn
off OL so that does not happen anymore.

This is becoming a serious problem, but I hope that there is an easy
solution.

Thank you.
