Dear all,
I have various problems with Windows Mobile Device Center, but basically it refuses to identify my Qtek 9100 device as connected and consequently doesn't sync. Installed: - Windows Vista Enterprise x86 (32-bit) - WMDC Beta 3 - MS Office 2007 - have administrator rights Now here's the situation: I created a partnership and synced all data OK only the first time. After that there's a plethora of ways things can go wrong, but none right. Here's just some examples of what happens when I put Qtek 9100 in the cradle (BTW, as a storage, both internal and storage card it is recognized OK) 1. Error from Microsoft Office Outlook X The profile name is not valid. Enter a valid profile name. It gives me options of OK and Cancel. OK leads to COntrol Panel's Mail item which suggest to rename the standard Outlook mail profile. Changing it leads to all sorts of ugly things I don't even want to get into. If Cancel is chosen the following message appears: Windows Mobile Device Center ! Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the network and access information. Restart your desktop computer and synchronize again. If problem persists, contact your network administrator. OK 2. Outlook X Unspecified error. Yep. As plain as that. 3. On Qtek 9100: :MSSYNCAPP The file ':MSSYNCAPP' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file. This happened only once, though, and was gone after Qtek soft reset. 4. Scan New Document ! Microsoft Office Document Scanning does not support this type of device. This one is funny. It thinks my Qtek is a scanner which it doesn't support ![]() installed at first sync has some kind of conflict with scanner driver or even the Office Document Scanning part of Office 2007. 5. Windows Media Player - Device Setup 1,8 Gb Storage Card This one is OK. Media Player recognized my 2GB Mini SD card which I have in Qtek. 6. Nothing happens, except for the sound which tells me USB (storage) device was inserted and recognized. 7. Sometimes miracle happens and it recongnizes Qtek in the cradle, but that does not usually help cause I get one of the following: Sync Center arrows keep spinning forever saying sync in progress. Sync Center continues synchronizing after I took Qtek out of cradle. (sometimes opening WMDC and clicking small, green sync button stops the sync and says it's completed) Sync Center says device is disconnected when Qtek is in cradle (that's what I described before) Sync Center starts synchronization when nobody asked it to, and no changes were made in Outlook or elsewhere to promtp it to sync. What I've tried: 1. Rebooting Vista. 2. Soft resetting Qtek 9100. 3. Removing WMDC and WMDC Beta 3; then reinstalling just WMDC Beta 3 4. Deleting partnerships; rebooting; re-syncing (helps just on first sync) 5. Deleting and reinstalling Local Area Connection (Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter) in Network Connections 6. Reinstalling Office 2007 - full install What I plan to try: 1. Reinstalling Office 2007 without some components such as Document Scanning 2. Finding third party sync software (if it exists for Vista) 3. Waiting for an update to WMDC In the meanwhile, I would appeciate any suggestions (eg. registry fixes, replacing files on PC and Qtek, etc.) and other guru stuff. Thank you! AD ps. don't know where my question fits, so just in case, cross-posting to microsoft.public.outlook, microsoft.public.office, microsoft.public.pocketpc, microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync, microsoft.public.windows |

WMDC is a complete and total abomination, PERIOD. How can they wreck something as simple as synching- something that's been around now for years? I had several of the same problems, and complete uninstall of the WMDC download and then (thankfully I remembered) doing a system restore from a restore point taken BEFORE installing that POS, and then reinstalling brought me to a point where I can actually sync my HP2215. However, it will not, for love or money, sync with MS Money- something I use EVERY SINGLE DAY, or I should say "used to".... Hopefully you created a restore point BEFORE installing this thrid world POS software development training project, and you can restore Vista to what it was beforehand, and try again and get lucky with partial, useable functionality out of it. |
