Default IMAP works on one PC, but not the other

I have a web server that handles several email accounts (users typically
access accounts via Webmail, which is a SmarterMail 2.6 interface. I don';t
know a heck of a lot, but it seems like what's used on server as email
handler is SmarterMail).

I decided to archive the really old emails on all the accounts, so connected
using Outlook 2002 at work (set up new accounts in Outllook, IMAP accounts,
to connect to the mail server, mail.whatever.com). It all works fine; for
every account, I was able to see the folders, move the emails, etc.

Then, at home, I try to connect the exact same way using Outlook 2003. I
verified that in setting up the account in Outlook I'm entering everything
exactly the same as at work on Outlook 2002; same ports, same settings, same
username/password, etc. used for connecting.

So, the IMAP accounts work perfectly at work, but at home, as soon as I set
up the account and click "finish," I get the password prompt repeatedly
(asks for password, I input it and click "OK", then it immediately asks for
it again, over and over, as if it's the wrong password, and never makes a
successful connection).

I have updated all Windows and Office software at home, and even turned off
the firewall just in case that was the problem, all to no avail.

Does anyone know why I would be able to set up these IMAP accounts in
Outlook 2002 but not in Outlook 2003? I'm assuming that the Outlook version
HAS to be the only differing factor here, since I disabled the firewall at
home and everything else relating to accessing the internet works OK, just
this IMAP account in Outlook is the problem.

I'm very confused here, and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading, and for any suggestions/feedback/etc.
