I want to assign the mails and addresses of a project (lets call it A) to a
seperate folder individually on the Harddisk (where all my other project-A related files are stored). This would enable me also to save/backup all project-A files including the outlook files individually (e.g.on a CD...). What do I have to do, to install a folder, which is not saved in the general outlook.pst-file (the general outlook-file is too big and contains all other projects). I use outlook 2007 & 2003. In Outlook I have a project structure -- project A -- MailsIn -- MailsOut -- Addresses project B.... If possible, I'd like to maintain this structure. The incoming and outgoing mails could still be transferred through the "personal folder" (=outlook.pst). I'd like to sort it manually and assign the mails to the individual folders. Can anybody give me an instruction on how to set up this. Now I have all projects in this common.pst-file, and each project already in seperate folders (as shown above). thanks -- PETER |

Would using seperate PST files (saved wherever you want on your harddrive)
with only a contacts folder and the mail files you mention in there be a good solution for you? I dont beleive you can just have a folder in outlook mapped to a real folder on your computer. I've tried this before, but it works only partly!
1) I've exported the existing folder as a seperate A.pst 2) then I shifted it to the location on the hard disc where I want it 3) then I have problems with the import: it works, but it seems to me that the location where it looks is still outlook.pst -- PETER "OS" wrote: Would using seperate PST files (saved wherever you want on your harddrive) with only a contacts folder and the mail files you mention in there be a good solution for you? Importing and exporting is never the correct way to transfer Outlook data.
You can create a PST file anywhere you want it on your hard drive and open it in Outlook. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Peter" wrote in message ... o.k., now it works :
1) with the "data file management" I created a new folder, attached to the hd-location 2) then I shifted my existing "MailsIn/Out & addresses" to the outlook folder where I wanted it! thanks -- PETER "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Importing and exporting is never the correct way to transfer Outlook data. If you go to Data File Managment you can create a new PST wherever you like,
then inside create folders or drag folders from your Personal Folders (outlook.pst) inside outlook. As Russ Valentine says don't bother with the Import/Export. The end result will then turn out something like this: Personal Folders |-Deleted Items |-Inbox |-Outbox |-Sent Items |-Calendar |-Contacts |-Journal |-Notes |-Tasks |-Drafts |-Junk E-mail Project A |-Contacts |- .... Archive Folders |- .... O "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote in message ... Importing and exporting is never the correct way to transfer Outlook data.
