Default News reader included in Outlook 07?

I read somewhere that the newsreader feature would be available in Outlook
07. My ISP also indicated that I can set up and aread from an Outlook
folder. However, I can find no way to do this. A search of MS web site
indicates that I have to buy an additional MAPI product for this to work. I
guess I don't understand since I can read any group I want from Outlook
Express. Why would this service not be available on the versio of the
software that I paid for separately? Or, am I missing something? Since the
MAPI servies is running on my machine why can't I simply access it from an
Oultook folder? Jim

There is no native support for the nntp (news) protocol in Outlook 2007. In
order to be able to read news groups (that use the nntp protocol) you need
to install an add-in application that can provide this functionality for
Outlook. I suspect that this is what your ISP was talking about.

A quick search (http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=outlook+nntp) gives
you some examples such as http://www.mapilab.com/outlook/nntp/ that allow
you to do what you want.

Native support for nntp in Outlook is something that come up several times
before but has not made it into the product.

Repeating: Outlook has never been a newsreader and never will be.

I have a list of the 4 addins that support nntp read/post he
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/news.htm. Note that while these are fine
if you only read a few low volume newsgroups on a few servers, Outlook's
performance will suffer if you pull down a lot of newsgroups on several
servers. The pst may need frequent repair if you subscribe to high volume
newsgroups.

Thanks for the assistance. Sounds like I may not want to incorporate the
add-in. I have BCM running and things are troublesome enough without adding
something else to the mix. I'll just open Outlook Express and read from
there. Thanks again.
