Outlook 2007 runs my HD for 30 sec. for every received email
I suggest you try the Outlook Performance Update (linked below) first.
Microsoft doesn't say that it solves 100% of the problem. In any case since even Outlook 2003 takes several seconds of HD every time I receive a message, I think it would anyway be of advantage to use a flash memory.
