I just bought a new computer from Dell with Vista and Small Business Office
2007. Apparently Dell takes off Outlook Express when they install Small Business Office. So now how do I subscribe to newsgroups? Do I have to buy Outlook Express? I don't like the lost of this functionality I had with my quite old system and Outlook 2000. |

Under Vista, OUTLOOK Express has been replaced by Windows Mail. Windows Mail
has same functionality including newsgroups. -- Laura Rooke MVP - Mobile Devices |

I don't like the lost of this functionality I had with my quite old system and Outlook 2000. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...ails/mail.mspx Time to go to the library and get a Vista for Dummies book. You haven't yet expended any effort to discover and learn that new fangled operating system and all the included bloat. My county library already lists 9 teach-yourself or "dummies" books for Vista. You've been using Windows XP for 5 years. Time to spend a couple evenings reading the books and maybe even using the help that is already included with the product. People learn by doing, so start doing Vista since that's what you're stuck with now. A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet. Outlook Express became Windows Mail. Did all functionality of OE survive into Windows Mail? No, like you cannot connect to Hotmail's HTTP service, free (legacy accounts) or paid, if you use Windows Mail since Microsoft intends that you use Windows Live Mail, yet another webmail interface, for Hotmail access (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926374). Even if Outlook Express, er, Windows Mail weren't there at all in Vista, how does that preclude you from trying other NNTP clients, several of which are free, like Xnews, Forte (the crippled version is free), 40tude Dialog, Thunderbird (although that's a step backward), Super Gravity, and I'm sure there are others not mentioned here (Google does work). Don't expect all that fluff software to continue to be provided in every successive version of the operating system, either, or that it retains all old behavior or functionality. After all, it's fluff and not part of an OS. MS-Paint might disappear someday, too. If you want it all the same old way then you have to keep using the same old software. By the way, Outlook Express is NOT Outlook, so you posted in the wrong newsgroup. OE is not some "lite" version of Outlook. There is no shared code. They are not sibling products any more than Word and WordPerfect are related to each other. Stop confusing Outlook Express with Outlook. Outlook is a PIM that Microsoft bought from someone else (I forgot where they originally got it). Outlook Express used to be called Internet Mail & News and they bought that from someone else. You got Outlook in SBO 2007. Outlook Express has NEVER been included in an Office package. |

I am having a similar experience using Outlook 2007 Standard. I would like
to be able to reply to posted group messages and cannot do so, although I used to be able to with Outlook Express. Do we have to use Microsoft Mail? Will that work with the other features of Outlook 2007 such as the calendar? k "David Park" wrote: I just bought a new computer from Dell with Vista and Small Business Office 2007.
