We are running Exchange 2003 with Outlook 2003. When someone external
sends recipient1 an email marked as private, the email only appears in
Outlook if Outlook is opened to recipient1's Outlook profile. If
someone else has recipient1's mailbox added to their Outlook profile,
the private email does not appear in the email list when recipient1's
inbox is selected. Is there a way someone with full permission to
recipient1's mailbox (including "send as") can open a private email
sent to recipient1 in their own Outlook profile when recipient1's
mailbox is added to their profile? Thanks, Jim

The Tools | OPtions | Delegates dialog has an option for allowing delegates to see the user's private items.

Out of curiousity, Sue, do you know what happens if you're given permissions
to the other mailbox at the Exchange level? Can you see Private without
interference, or can only the primary domain account see them? I don't have
an exchange server handy to test and was hoping you might know off the top
of your head.

I can't check that either right now, but IIRC, if the user is granted full mailbox access, they are essentially an owner, with the same access as the original owner, including the ability to see all private items.

Yes - full mailbox access grants access to *everything*.
