How is that done? For what purpose would this certificate be? There are code-signing certs, web access certs, e-mail certs, and others. Often, one type of cert can't be used for other purposes. In general, you purchase a cert from a well-known Certification Authority, like VeriSign or Thawte. Thawte also offers a free email signing cert for personal use. See http://www.thawte.com/secure-email/p...-certificates/ My question was meant as a response to Diane's suggestion in the 6/21/07 thread entitled "Subject: Outlook2K7/Vista & Security Certificates??" When I try to retrieve e-mails from imap.aol.com, I'm getting an error message stating that the certificate can't be verified. Apparently, the solution is to download a new certificate from aol. But I don't know how to do this. Alot of people are having this problem. |

My intention was to do that, but I made an error in using the software. But on the substance of my problem, how do I download a certificate from AOL. I have visited the AOL numerous times, and can't find a page that permits the downloading of a new certificate. |

I have visited the AOL numerous times, and can't find a page that permits the downloading of a new certificate. For those sites that I visit where a certificate is required, I've been supplied with links to update them. However, Internet Explorer should come with two America Online trusted root certification authority certificates. In the recent past, Microsoft has published a trusted root certificate update on the Windows Update website (i.e., it should be available for installation through automatic update). I don't know if that update contains new AOL certs or not, but if you haven't installed it, it's worth doing so. My two AOL certs are valid until 2037. -- Brian Tillman |
