Default I can't see replies to my email. I only see my original. Help!

When I send an email to someone who uses an internet account (juno.com), I
can't see their replies. I only see my original message (which is included on
their replies by default) but cannot see their reply at all. If I reply to
that "invisible" message and they reply back, then I can see their second
reply, but not their original one. What is going on?
