Hello,
I have Outlook AND Outlook Express set to come up automatically on startup. For quite some time now, I sometimes get an error message, saying something to the effect of "switch identities" being turned on in one application, which is conflicting w/ the other. What can/should I do in either program to fix this? Lately (not sure this is related), OE isn't coming up at all -- w/ some Microsoft message coming up saying it had to be shut down (I copied down as much of the technical info as I could today, and it was saved even to a '.txt' file in \Temp, but when I submitted the info to MS, the file went away!) I did write down some specifics, if it would help anyone... For instance, it mentioned MSIMN.exe, and various "exception" info... Thanks! Mark H. -- Science-based nutrition! See TIOEnterprises.net |

MSIMN.EXE is the Outlook Express executable file...named when the product was
called "Internet Mail and News". May I ask why you are having both Outlook and Outlook Express come up at startup? Also, what versions of each are you using, and which is set to be your default e-mail program? Lastly, have you made any changes to your system lately that may have caused these issues, like installing Windows or Office updates? -- Jocelyn Fiorello MVP - Outlook *** Messages sent to my e-mail address will NOT be answered -- please reply only to the newsgroup to preserve the message thread. *** "Mark Hilbrink" wrote: Hello, I have Outlook AND Outlook Express set to come up automatically on startup. Thanks, Jocelyn!
Well, I am using both programs because I want to be able to check multiple email accounts. (I recently discovered that one can do multiple accounts, but I haven't yet had the courage to try adding others... because once I do, they will "suck" the emails out of the ISP, and it doesn't work (or work right), I will lose them forever!) My Outlook is 2002 (10.2627.2625), and OE is: version 6.00.2900.2180. Outlook is the default. I have installed (and keep updated) McAfee anti-virus and 2 spyware util's -- one of which I think has caused problems, altho it's award-winning (PC Tools' Spyware Doctor). What about the "switch identities" error? Thanks! Mark H. -- Science-based nutrition! No clue about the switch identities error -- that's an Outlook Express thing
and since Outlook and OE are completely different programs, I am not an OE expert :-) Both programs can handle multiple e-mail accounts. You just need to figure out how to set them up to "Leave a copy of the message on the server". If for some reason they happen to disappear from the server, you can always forward them back from Outlook or OE; just temporarily disable automatic checking for new mail and forward the messages to yourself at the same e-mail address. I would choose one program and stick with it. If your virus scanner is scanning e-mails for viruses, disable the e-mail scanning...it causes more trouble than it's worth. -- Jocelyn Fiorello MVP - Outlook *** Messages sent to my e-mail address will NOT be answered -- please reply only to the newsgroup to preserve the message thread. *** "Mark Hilbrink" wrote: Thanks, Jocelyn! (OK, thanks again, Jocelyn! But I will check the box "No" concerning the
"Switch identities" thing, since that's still a bother... altho the whole thing is sporadic! (Just now I booted up and both programs came up w/out a hitch!) Thanks for all your peripheral advice, though -- I appreciate it! :-) Mark H. -- Science-based nutrition!
