Default POP3 problem

I configured Outlook 2003 (XP home) for the Pop3 connecton from Gmail and it
worked fine for several weeks. Now I am getting this message:
Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC90) : 'Your incoming (POP3) e-mail server
has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message,
contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The
server responded: -ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail
server!'

I verified the settings against the instructions provided by Google, but
it's still not functioning. How do I get this fixed?

Thanks....

Turn off AVG's Email proxying and see if it works then. If it does, well,
good. If it doesn't, do you have any firewall software installed on the
system, like ZoneAlarm, Sygate, or anything?
