Default Reconstructing Outlook

I had accidentally deleted my main Outlook (mail) profile from the
control panel. Now I created a new profile and tried to open the old
files and settings by simply going to File | Open and pointing to the
old Outlook.PST file (which is about 500 MB in size). Unfortunately
nothing seems to happen - there is no disk activity and my old folders
do not appear.

I understand importing my old Outlook.pst file is not a good idea - so
what is the best way to use the old data in my new profile?

Could someone perhaps point me to any KB article or other detailed
instructions?

Thanks
