Default Cannot Access File

Hi,

XP Pro Office '07 Professional

When I load OL it will load and I can see the last email I received before
whatever happened, happend. I can open the email in full view BUT that is as
far as it goes. I can advance to the next email I get "Cannot open the next
item. The file c\Docs and sett\local\ID\...pst cannot be accessed. Data
Error (cyclical redundancy check)

When I restart OL i get a message saying it didn't close properly and is
checking.

I have tried to run scanpst but it will not get past about 30 seconds before
I get an error.

I cannot copy the pst file, i get the CRC error again.

Down in the bottom right corner of OL is an icon of two little gears, Data
file check in progress.

I let it run over night and still the same issues.

I ran the chkdsk a few times.

I do have a back up that is a couple of months old that I can rework and
will not be to devastating, however I would like to just fix the file I
have.

Any help.

Hi Rob,

Cyclic Redundancy Errors indicate not only an error with your PST but
potentially also the harddisk. Read here for assistance:

http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/crcerror.htm

I hope this helps. Keep me posted.

Default Cannot Access File

I ran chkdsk a couple of times yesterday and rebooted as per instructions.

I then tried to run scanpst and it would go for about a half aminute and
then an error.

UltraATA CRC Error Rate 200 200 0
Raw Read Error Rate 57 48 6

can you let me know your thoughts on this report

Did you use the command chkdisk /r? Then run scanpst.exe against the PST file.

Also, go to the hard disk maker's web site to see if they provide a
download for a diagnostic utility to check your hard disk.

Default Cannot Access File

As always I get great help here. I have reached my point of time alloted for
non-productive things for the day (week). I am taking it to a shop. the good
news is, i will be out of the office this after noon and won't be back until
Thurs morning.

With both of your help I have learned a few things which I enjoy. But I have
to focus in revenue generating activities.

That's a sign of a hardware problem on your disk. I'd normally say to run
chkdsk a couple of times, alternating those with runs of SCANPST.EXE on the
PST file itself, but it looks like you've done that.

I have tried to run scanpst but it will not get past about 30 seconds
before I get an error.

If the data in the PST is important, you'll have to purchase a PST recovery
program. Google for "(Office OR PST) recovery". I'd also be leery of the
hard drive.

I have the exact same problem and the conditions, did you ever find the
solution or did you have to go to your old backups. Any idea what caused the
problem?
