Default Restoring PST-File

Hi,
last week m yharddisc crashed and I could save the Outlook File "Pers?nliche Ordner(1).pst" (Gernman Installation). Now I have installed a new system and tried to import my "Pers?nliche Ordner" (there are a lot of e-mnails I need to recover. Unfurtunately the import function states, that the mentioned file is not a "Pers?nlicher Ordner". Any idea how to recover data in this file?

Thanks for any help
Regards, Harald

Describe exactly how you saved the old PST. Usually, when you see the
message you describe, the PST you wish to use is corrupt. However, make
sure it is not read-only and try running SCANPST.EXE on it. It that app
complains, you'll have to find a PST recovery tool. Google will help. Look
for "(recover OR repair) (pst OR office)"

Firstly, as posted many times in this group do NOT use the import function
to transfer data from outlook to outlook.
Why?
(Courtesy of Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook])

Importing an entire PST may well corrupt your profile and may create a ghost
PST that you can't close. Importing PST's will lose:
1. Custom Forms
2. Custom Views
3. Connections between contacts and activities
4. Received dates on mail
5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar
6. Journal connections
7. Distribution Lists

Opening a PST file will preserve all of these. That is why we do not advise
people to import a native file into Outlook.

In answer to your problem, copy the pst file to your HDD, (do NOT overwrite
any existing file), remove the Read-Only attribute if that is set, and then
in outlook do File-open-outlook data file and navigate to where you copied
it to.
You then have two alternatives.
1. Drag and drop the data from the old file to the new
or,
2. If you have a large amount of data then you can set the old file as the
Default Delivery location and Outlook will just carry on using that file.
(Control Panel-Mail-Data File)
