I see that icon on the advanced tool bar. How do I customize my existing
toolbar so it will appear there? I don't need to take up all that
real-estate for one icon.

View, toolbar, customize... browse the commands list... advanced is near the
bottom of the categories list, select it and outlook today is at the top of
the commands list. drag it to where ever you want.

you can either click on the outlook today "folder" in the navigation pane
(the top level folder in your mailbox or pst) or customize the toolbar or
show the advanced toolbar... it's the icon with the little house on the
right and a clock on the left.
