... Outlook and outlook express incoming server; pop3.live.com out going server: smtp.live.com smtp port: 25 -SSL enabled pop3 port: 995 - SSL enabled You sure they use port 25 for SMTP with SSL enabled? This port is the standard one but usually without SSL support. Maybe they require using a different port number, like 463. They obviously went to a different port (995) for POP3 when SSL is enabled than use the standard POP3 port (110). By the way, if you configured an HTTP account in either, POP3 and SMTP are not used. You would have to define a POP3 account to use those protocols. And HTTP account will use DAV (scripting language) to communicate to their mail host, not POP3 or SMTP. Nothing can make outlook express and outlook send messages. Prove it. Show what is the error message in either e-mail client. Don't describe it. SHOW it by copying and pasting it here (munge out your e-mail address or username, if shown). |

Agreed, and I'd like to add if Outlook and OE have a problem, and it is happening on three different operating systems, then it sure isn't an Outlook or an OE issue and sounds a lot more like either something between you and the server, or your account type. Now, that blog post is old, but, its only HotmailPlus accounts, not MSN Premium. imtiaz... which type of account do you have? Also, has it *ever* worked? -- f.h. |

Thank you very much for your response.
It used to work approxaimately two years ago at that time MSN used to have "secure.smtp.msn.com" for outgoing server. I have made many phone calls to tech support. I have made many attempts to fix this issue in the past. Then I thought about the newsgroup and here I am. Your input is appreciated. "F. H. Muffman" wrote in message ... So, again, is this a Hotmail Plus account? Also, who is your ISP? Some ISPs will block port 25 traffic out of their network. Did the Microsoft support person have you try to telnet to the smtp server to see if that worked? -- f.h. |

Are you scanning your incoming and outgoing emails with a Anti Virus or Anti Spam suite. Would it be Norton by any chance ?

And what if you define an HTTP account in Outlook and use that to connect to your Hotmail accounts? Microsoft hasn't provided POP3 and SMTP servers for their Hotmail accounts for many years. Below is some history (not all changes are noted): Some Hotmail history: - 1996 July: Hotmail becomes available. - 1997 December: Microsoft buys Hotmail. - 2000 February: For MSN, POP3 access is discontinued and switches to WebDAV access. MSN "legacy" accounts created before that date continue to get POP3 access. MSN accounts created after that date only get WebDAV access. - 2002 July: For Hotmail, POP3 access is discontinued and switches to WebDAV access. - 2004 November: For Hotmail, Microsoft changes policy to disable WebDAV access for *new* free Hotmail accounts created after that date. Old accounts created before that policy change date continue to get WebDAV access. New accounts created after that date must pay to get WebDAV access. Use the CURRENT method for connecting to your Hotmail account. If you just created a new freebie account, you won't be able to connect to it using Outlook unless: (1) You have version 2003 or 2007 of Outlook; and, (2) Install the Outlook Connector. You won't be able to connect using OE to a freebie Hotmail account. The Windows Live Mail client will connect to freebie Hotmail accounts. Regardless of using a freebie or paid Hotmail account, you will need to define an HTTP account and use that protocol to connect to their service. |
