Default Outlook removing stops from attachment path

Hi there,
there is an issue with attachements that are sent by Outlook
where full stops are removed from file names. This had me scratching my
head for hours after sending someone a long named config file for a .Net
library. The guy did not notice the full stops were missing and it had me
flumoxed as to why it wasn't working until I noticed the stops had been
changed to spaces. Is this deliberate or a bug? I suspect it may be for
cross platform compatiblity.

Cheers.

outlook does not normally remove periods from file names. I've seen issues
similar to this when the sender used automation to attach the file and send
the message.

I am having the same problem and have a question on your reply. When you say
the "sender used automation to attach the file" I am not sure what you mean.
Can you clarify please?
thank you

automation means they used a script or programming to prepare the message
and send it to outlook with little to no interaction. One common use of
automation is to generate and mail reports from servers.

No scripting was used to send it. A file name like
Company.Module.Item.dll.config ends up as Company Module Item dll.config.
Only the last full stop in the file name is kept.

Are you an employee of Microsoft? If not, then use a different email

I also did not use scripting. I find that when I open the document in
Outlook, it removes the periods in the file name. If I save the document
first and the open from explorer, the periods are there. Is there a setting a
Word or Outlook I can change? I am using 2003.
Thank you for any help or ideas you can provide.

I don't think there's any way to change that.
