Default Moving Tasks

I'm using Outlook 2003 for students and teachers. I was previously able to move tasks up and down by clicking on a task, holding the mouse button down and dragging it up or down to wherever I wanted to put it. I pushed a wrong button, and now I can't do that. I forgot if I was in detailed list or the active tasks list. I tried pushing the sort by icon button and the subject button above and they both don't work. Can someone help me?

As I am not looking over your shoulder, we'll need to start with some basic
questions. I will be able to help IF you answer these questions.

Which folder are you in?

What View are you looking at? If you don't know how to find out, turn on the
Advanced Toolbar, then look at the Current View window which is a white box
with the name of your View in it.

I don't think I'm in a folder. You know when they give you option of the task button, calendar button, journal button, I'm in the task button view. How do you turn on the advanced toolbar, I tried asking the office assistant in Outlook but didn't get a result. Hope to hear from you, Len.

That's on the left side in the Navigation Pane. What's on the right side in
the large pane?

Right-click an empty portion of the toolbar area and check "Advanced".

Okay thanks to Brian's help I figured out how to open the advanced toolbar. I found out that I am in the Detailed List view. I also found out that I am in the Task folder, I tried creating another folder for tasks and it did the same thing. Brian on the right pane I just have various tasks to do. Still can't manuallu move them up or down.

Do you know how to sort and group the Tasks in your Tasks folder?

If not, go read about that he www.judygleeson.com/articles.aspx

You cannot just drag stuff up and down as how they show depends on sorting
and grouping.

I just tried this and, in the Detailed List view, I have no problems
clicking and dragging tasks up or down. When I do, I get a red arrow just
to the left of the rows and a red separator line between the selected task
and the others. The red arrow indicates where the task will be inserted
when I release the mouse button. However, this is true ONLY if I have not
selected on of the column headers and have sorted by that header. To
correct the problem if I have selected a column on which to sort, I can
right-click the column header, choose "Customize Current View", then "Rest
Current View", then OK, then OK.
