Default Can't "Hide Header Information" in Task View Reading Pane

I'm running Outlook 2003, SP3.
In the Task View Reading Pane, the header information takes up a lot
of screen space. I'd like to get rid of it. I have found two dialogs
with a checkbox for "Hide Header Information", but checking and
unchecking that box has no effect. It appears to be a bug. Any
suggestions?
