I've recently purchased this computer which runs vista rather than xp. I, fortunately, saved all my contacts and emails however, I have been using the machne for a couple of weeks so have a lot of new emails in my inbox & sent items. As the machine didn't come with word processing software installed, I bought Office enterprise 2007 and installed it so I could write a few letters.
Today, when I tried to access my emails, Office outlook has made itself default, deleting all my settings, accounts contacts and emails. Fortunately, I still have the saved emails, accounts and contacts but all my emails over the past few weeks have gone. I cannot find them anywhere on my machine. I agree with the OP regarding your tone, it IS very condescending & implies complete stupidity. As an end user, I was not given any options. As soon as the first screen came up I could either agree to continue or close, I closed but could not recover my original email programme or settings. At least OE7 gave you the option of updating from OE6. |

Jimm is right, the tone of replies IS very condescending. I had exactly the same problem after I had used OE6 for a few weeks on a new machine, I discovered my copy of office was a trial. upon upgrading I discovered office outlook 2007 had set itself as the default mail programme without importing any settings, emails or contacts.
Fortunately, as this was a new machine running vista, I still had backups of all my old emails but was a tad miffed at losing a few weeks' of new emails. I did note, however, (after getting over the initial panic & looking at every option on the screen) that by clicking on File/import&export, you can import everything from another programme - in my case, Windows Mail. You can also open windows mail from the start button |

The "forum" that you are posting in leaches off the Microsoft News servers in order to make it look far busier than it really is. Everyone who uses the MS News servers sees your post on it's own - we have NO IDEA what you are talking about and to whom you are talking. If you MUST continue to post in this "forum" then please at least quote the post you are replying to, and do NOT change the subject line. Do we assume you were using Windows Mail, prior to installing Office?
And that you wish to continue using Windows Mail? When you install Office, unless you access Outlook, and except the msg about configuring, it wont be set up. Windows Mail & Outlook are two completely different programs & its your option which you use. So what mail application do you wish to continue with? PS If you only wanted to write a few letters Office is OTT, Works or similar would have done you, at a considerable cost saving mike wrote in message ... You should have created a new pst, not piggy backed on another
Depends as to what your using for Mail on the Vista PC, I'm assuming you used Outlook, not Outlook Express, on the old one "Dean" wrote in message ... I am new to this group but I have a question.
