I have started working with Outlook 2003, and am exceedingly annoyed
that the messages I make are all spaced out at inordinately large intervals. A little bit of knowledge being dangerous, I have fixed Word and Excel to start exactly as I want them to, and would like to do the same with Outlook. When I am done composing a message, I Select All and |Format|Paragraph| and set Before and After to 0 and it collapses the message somewhat, but its annoying to have to keep doing it. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. -- Regards, P D Sterling Florida, New York USA |

are you using word as the editor? look in tools, options, mail format.

Can I be -not word- and have a little more control over composition? I really appreciate your advice. thanx!! -- Regards, P D Sterling Florida, New York USA |

To "control composition" you would need t use either Word as the editor, or use Outlook's rich text format settings. HTML allows some control but is incompatible with some email programs and may be disabled by choice by others. RTF is only compatible with Outlook and Eudora. Word as the editor only works well if the recipient uses Office.

Which mail editor are you using (Word or Outlook's built-in one) and in what format are you composing the messages? chee this is getting old! I was using Word until this afternoon. I de-selected Word and the composition is a lot less formatted, but it ignores the format of my signature! so my message comes out nicely in Times New Roman, but the signature, even tho I checked ALWAYS, comes out in Arial, which I happen to hate. gad! (but thanx for trying!!) -- Regards, P D Sterling Florida, New York USA |

The answer I seek is one of "HTML", "Plain Text:", or "Rich Text" and can be found by examining the Format menu in the compose window. Alternatively, you can tell me what's selected in the "Compose in this message format" drop-down on ToolsOptionsMail Format from the main Outlook window. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
