Hi,

I am using: Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 on Windows XP Service Pack 2 build 2600, and I have the following question:

My Outlook is configured to check a few accounts, some of them are mailing lists with hundreds of emails waiting after a long weekend. I want to start the send/receive process but I don't want Outlook to check those accounts, only my main account because it will take forever and I don't have time for it now.

How can I configure to "put on hold" the other accounts? I don't want to delete them, just not check them for now.

Any ideas?

you can start outlook with the /nopoll switch and select the accounts you
want to check from the send receive button.

I did "Start -- Run -- Outlook /nopoll", but I got the following error:

"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using."

Where to?

It was expected that you knew where the program was. The path to
outlook.exe is not in the PATH environment variable. Most programs won't be
in the PATH. Go find where you installed it and enter the FULL path to the
outlook.exe file; i.e., specify the fully qualified path to the file.
Alternatively, you could open a DOS shell and navigate to wherever you
installed the outlook.exe so the current or working folder you are in is
where the file resides, and then enter "outlook.exe [parms]".

If you want to disable some accounts but have other automatically polled,
select which accounts to disable from the Send/Receive group. Go to:

Tools - Send/Receive Settings - Define Send/Receive Groups, pick the group
in which the account is defined, click Edit, select the account, and disable
it (or disable Receive if you still want to Send using that account).

FWIW, if the program is registered in windows, you only need the file name -
so outlook /switch will work provided you use a valid switch.


This error means the command argument was not valid (and it wasn't -
nopollmail is the correct switch)
